There is a Haitian proverb, se bouch ki manje tout manje, men se pa bouch ki pale tout pawÃ²l, the mouth eats all the food, but not all talk comes from your mouth. In the U.S. we would say, actions speak louder than words.

The events this week in Haiti’s internally displaced people IDP camps — dramatized by Hurricane Emily — highlight the importance of this lesson.

Following the eviction of 514 families from the Sylvio Cator stadium mid-July, high-ranking U.N. officials issued its strongest language yet condemning forced evictions in Haiti as violations of IDPs’ human rights.

The IDPs needed not only words but concrete action.

On Wednesday, August 3, the last of the 296 families were evicted from Camp Django in the Port-au-Prince suburb of Delmas, the site of a rash of forced evictions. Camp Django was situated a mere yards away from Carrefour AÃ©roport, the Airport Corner which was violently shut down at the end of May.

The U.N. Police stood their watch at the camps entrance. The purported landowner and municipal government used many of the same tactics that over 40,000 evicted IDPs and 125,000 more facing eviction have experienced since they sought refuge on private and public property since the January 2010 earthquake. The residents of Django were offered 125USD to leave their tarp shelters. Though about 100 families accepted the funding, many protested the offer said to be far too little to enable better living conditions elsewhere. Camp residents were then beaten by police and agents of the landowner. The IDPs were threatened with guns and machetes. Their shelters and the camp’s latrines were destroyed. Men wearing shirts of the Mayor of Delmas’ agents made verbal threats, saying the will suffer worse than illegal evictions at other camps.

With violence and further threats looming, the IDPs organized with an Anti-Eviction movement composed of Haitian civil society, other IDP camps, and international partners to resist the eviction. They held a press conference to tell their story and on Monday, August 1, the date set for their eviction, they held a peaceful protest to call attention to the violation of their rights.

That afternoon, the Haitian National Police (PNH) entered the camp along with the attackers from the prior incidents. They again told all the IDPs they had to leave on their own or they would be removed. At 9pm, after all the human rights investigators left, PNH and the same aggressors returned. They again had firearms, threw rocks, and threatened further violence; pressuring the IDPs to leave the property. All the while UNPOL was on their post at the camp entrance.

Tough talk from high-ranking U.N. officials for more assertive resistance against forced evictions failed to protect the residents of the camp. After the violence occurred, the Stabilization Mission of Haiti (MINUSTAH) had positioned manned U.N. Police (UNPOL) SUVs outside the camp. Two to three vehicles remained in shifts at the entrance of the camp day and night. But their mission caused confusion within the camp, many IDPs stating that they believed they were there to assist PNH and the purported landowner with the eviction.

Bubba Smith Is Dead

Charles Aaron “Bubba” Smith, a former top pick in the NFL who is best known for his role in the Police Academy movie series, has died at the age of 66.

Smith, a 6-foot-7, 280-pound defensive end, enjoyed an All-American career at Michigan State before being selected first by the Baltimore Colts in the 1967 NFL draft.

After playing five seasons for the Colts – one of which earned him a Super Bowl Victory and ring – Smith was traded to the Oakland Raiders, where he played in 1973 and 1974, and finished his career with the Houston Oilers in 1975 and 1976.

After retiring, Smith turned to acting in movies and TV, playing Moses Hightower in six “Police Academy” movies, and appearing in a number of TV series, including “Half-Nelson,” “Blue Thunder” and “Good Times.”

The tragic news of Bubba’s death stunned those who knew him well.

Hank Bullough, his defensive coordinator at MSU, revealed that he recently talked with Smith and confirmed that he would be back in East Lansing for MSU’s Oct. 22 homecoming game against Wisconsin.

“It’s real shocking,” Bullough said. “He’s a guy who did a lot of things to help people, he was a good guy.”

While the official cause of death is unknown at this time, authorities believe Smith appeared to die of natural causes as there were no initial indications of foul play.

The L.A. County coroner’s office is likely to decide Thursday whether to perform an autopsy on the pro football player turned actor.

“That will be up to the doctor, the pathologist, to decide,” S. Dixson, a coroner’s investigator, explained.

Nick Lachey is not someone I had ever really paid much attention to.

I knew he’d been a member of the boy band 98 Degrees. I knew that he had been married to, and starred on a reality show with, Jessica Simpson.

Then last summer at a Television Critics Press Tour party, Nick was there to promote a show he was hosting for ABC called High School Musical: Get in the Picture.

After calling off a deal for Rich Harden(notes) late Saturday night, Boston worked out a three-team trade with the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers that got them left-hander Erik Bedard(notes) and Class AAA reliever Josh Fields(notes).

In exchange, the Mariners received Class AAA outfielder Trayvon Robinson, who is one of the Dodgers' top prospects, along with another outfielder, Chih-Hsien Chiang. The Dodgers received Class AA catcher Tim Fedorowicz, in addition to minor league pitchers Juan Rodriguez and Stephen Fife.

It is curious that Boston's front office approved Bedard and his questionable medical history after deciding that Harden's penchant for injury made him too risky to make it through the season.

Harden is a player who's been on the disabled list 10 times in a nine-year major league career, due to a variety of shoulder, elbow and back injuries. But Bedard hasn't been much healthier.

Bedard has hit the DL eight times in eight seasons with elbow, shoulder, hip, and oblique maladies, though Red Sox are obviously fine with his medicals. Bedard arguably has been more durable than Harden, and at least his recent injury was to his knee, not his pitching arm.

It is just speculation that it will take 10 years or 15 years. Actually past 3 years atleast 50% h1 were used by TCS,WIPRO and similar companies. So those who are processing gc is less. But it may take some time to clear current backlog as we had 195k H1 cap till 2003. If 65k h1 cap is there then it will be 3 year waiting period for EB2 and 4 to 5 year for Eb3. People will speculate based on number of H1s. But their calculation is not including the number of people who are giving up and also many people are going back. Yes, you made a very good point. I totally agree with you. Most people here do not really care about the fundamental immigration reform as long as they can get their GCs. Maybe instead of asking for SKIL which is very controversial, we should just ask for visa number increase for a specific period, for example, 5 years. That will solve our problem and is less controversial. After 5 years, all of us here should have had our GCs. The rest of the problem can be left to other people.

I agree with most of things you said. By the way, I called the office of the Honorable Attorney General Alberto Gonzales today. I sent e-mail messages as well. Obviously I don't even ask about fixes since he is not supposed to have that power. However, I requested a timeline on when the EB3 I-485 cut-off dates are supposed to move ahead. That is something he does have power to do.

I agree that it is very important to clear what is "rihgt", "privilege" and "symphaty". I tried to do that several times before and in order to avoid any misunderstanding have quoted below a part of one of my messages. Please read it carefully.

"I do believe that I HAVE THE RIGHT to get my LCA adjudicated in 2-3 months time (OK, make it 6 months, having in mind you are dealing with an inefficient administration).
I do believe that I HAVE THE RIGHT to know in short term (2-3 months, not 3-4 years !) if I am eligible for permanent residency.
I do believe that I HAVE THE RIGHT to know how long (if approved) will take the I-485 process.

These are clear, simple questions that require clear, simple answers. Getting these answers (NO is also an answer) in a reasonable period of time is a right, not a privilege..."

Americans have the right to determine how many immigrants they need and how to handle this issue. But we have the right to follow clear and simple rules for that process. It seems to me that the way they currently handle the H1 immigrants has a lot to do with the "Las Vegas" type of business (gambling) - shall I get my LC approved, when will I get the LC approved, shall I get a GC, when can I get the GC etc. The rules change permanently and half a million hard working people are in limbo for a decade and more. That is not fair and this is what you have to explain to the Americans.

And, btw, if the local IT "professionals" you were debating with were so great, they would not be unemployed...

I am totally with you , I am not looking for EAD/AP I just need my GC.So that i can plan my life.
We need more efforts to request the government to look into our problems.
I pay lot of taxes, social security and still its easier for others to get a GC and not me...

I also belive we should not use Gandhigiri , to request something , which was against the priniciples of Gandhi... but sab chalta hai..

I don't know why but we tend to be satisfied with lsmall benefits...

I bet most of the people don't use your ead and AP as it puts you in a gray "Adjustment of status". They are good to have though. But you will see...how painful it is to decide to use them or not..

What i want to say is that being able to apply for EAD and AP is not the end of the battle..you will be stuck in a depressing situation waiting for the final green card.How do i know? .. I went through it...waiting for GC for the past 4 years.

I dont know its FBI or its just the USCIS incompetence but waiting in the final stage is horrible. Every time you travel you are scared...AP as for as my lawyer goes IT does not guarantee 100% entry in to the country.

After you apply for AP its only 1 year H1 increments.

What i am saying why dont we try for the overall improvement of the GC processing. Why dont we be firm about not wasting the GC numbers and recapturing the unused numbers.

We had a small revolt (peaceful way) and its successful.We dont want to stop there.

LETS FIGHT FOR THE OVERALL IMPROVEMENT OF THE GC PROCESSING

well said... and key point is we are bashing (if that's what you want to call it) the system (we are part of the system) not Americans...

Lot of people fail or choose not to see that.

We do have a right to request prompt, fair service.
We do have a right to expect to be treated by the system as we treat the system: with respect.
If we do not actively seek to change the system for the better, then who will?

There is no injustice that some justify with "well, he's illegal!" or "He's not American!" It is not acceptable. Not just because it is unfair to us, but because there are no bounds to it.

If early Americans just accepted how the British treated them, there would be no United States. Not arguing for revolution, but I am saying that any efficiency that exists today exists because of the demand for it. Regardless of citizenship.

As long as people support the cause and organization "Willingly" we will have infinite horizons to grow. The moment you bring "Burocracy" in, ultimately momentum will die.. may be slowly or quickly. Historically, IV threads are the major attentive media to declare the existence. We should not kill that with any enforcement of "Paid membership"...It is always hard to wake people. If that would be easy than nobody would have used the word "Struggle"..right:). On other hand yes there is a dire need of increasing financial strength exponentially and that too quickly is at high priority. We need to think and find other ways and resources.

that is the challenge. but it is also a slow process. it took a couple of movements before a lot of members got on board. more results will bring more members. I support issue based funding. announce what the money is needed for and ask members to contribute. members who have a vested interest and are motivated in an issue will contribute. Would a person who vies for GC contribute for an H1B cap increase issue and vice versa?

it is also a guage of the support that IV has for an issue and its resolution. many members may not agree with what IV is doing and hence will not contribute. It makes for good collective decision making.

Specter did mention that he expects the CIR to be passed in the next few weeks in the lame duck session by the house.. infact he mentioned that the conservative outgoing speaker Hastert in favour of this at this time..so house might pass this now..with the senate already passed this..

Worst case scenario, dates will remain static or very minimal backward movement. It looks like the black hole is the time between late 2004 and early 2005, pre-PERM.Other than saying there is massive inventory of backlogged cases, Ron has not given better/ actual numbers of likely pending EB-2 I cases.

I agree with you, and believe me, all the white lawyers, none of them go the extra mile to calculate numbers. All they are concerned with is their fees.
I have a white lawyer and being a member in IV, I know more than she does. Her lack of knowledge does not undermine her credibility, but it is not her job to know the numbers, she presents her client's case to INS, from there its guess work.

I think Vldrao and other members are not too optimistic or blindly optimistic, they calculated numbers and analyzed the results.

Late Wednesday, rumors emerged that the USCIS may attempt to retrogress the July immigrant visa numbers early in July and reject I- 485 (adjustment of status) applications filed early in the month. USCIS has taken such action already with respect to the �other worker� visa category involving non-professional workers.

Visa availability is based on the U.S. Department of State Visa Bulletin, which is published monthly, not on a rolling basis. If USCIS cuts off visa numbers in mid-month, this would be a clear violation of Federal law and agency policy. If the USCIS were to take this arbitrary action, it would cause significant problems for applicants and employers alike.

If USCIS cuts off applications on a certain date in early July, this will most likely occur without advance warning. In that case, not all applications will be accepted for processing. Be aware that that USCIS will reject an application unless it contains certain minimum supporting documents. For I-485 applications, minimum documents include a completed medical examination and birth certificates (or secondary evidence of birth, which must meet specific USCIS requirements). Applications for dependent spouses must include a marriage certificate. We strongly recommend that I-485 applicants obtain these and other requested documents as soon as possible. Until further notice, please do not plan to travel internationally during the month of July.

We will work as hard and as diligently as possible to get I-485 applications filed quickly. This will require active cooperation by all applicants to obtain needed documents. Again, please understand that the proposed USCIS action is just rumor at this point, but if the USCIS takes such action, it will likely be without warning. Further, it is possible that there could be retroactive rejections of applications once filed. Unfortunately, this is all we know at this time. We do not know when and if any such actions will occur; we will also not know immediately which, if any, cases are rejected once they have been submitted.

2) If a different employer files my green card in EB2 category, at what stage will I have to join this new employer. I am planning to let my new (future) employer file GC in Eb2 while I continue working for my old employee. I will then join the new employer after getting the green card. Is this possible? I want this EB2 case to have the same priority date as EB3.

3) I Have Already filled 485 in Eb3 category , Do I have to file I485 in Eb2 Again or my Previous Eb3 485 Transfered to this New Eb2 Category

4) If I have to file New I485 in Eb2 in that case what happened to My Eb3 485

Ethnicity has nothing to do with skill level. Consider this also, if no other countries come close to the 7% limit, but India and China are maxed out. Guess who loses just because of an arbitrary limit? Guess where those unused greencards go?

They go to a pile of greencards, left unused and wasted. Wash, rinse, repeat the same cycle year on year. June 07 will be a looooooong way away (if you are from a severely retrogressed country), don't kid yourself.

Still , he only has bachelors degree. BE degree holders are dime a dozen these days. Even I am one of them. You need MBA, MS or PhD to survive or go up in career. Tell me why some MS degree holder with 3.7+ GPA is not more qualified than BITS guys? I have met and rolled over (performed better) than many BITS guys in my career. And I know many guys from my local place did not go to other states or outside for education because their parents would not let them go away for studies. So..... you can find smarter guys in local places as well.

This is the problem with a lot of guys. They go to some top Indian institution and they think they are all set in life, they are out of the box , extraordinary and people should come and reward them for that.

No my friend, life is a one day match... you hit couple of sixes , you are ahead in the game, lose couple of wickets , you are fighting for survival. Also see how he is talking down on India despite getting the best opportunity in his life there.....

Of the 10,000 available visas per year for EB5, only about 3k to 4k are being used. How about if one buy a house and give a minimum $100,000 cash payment (not credit in US), he will get a temporary greencard from the EB5 visa pool. If after 2 years, the house is occupied and owned by the same person without problems with credit, he will get a permanent GC. This is on top of meeting the requirements of the category he is in.

Sorry for bringing EB5 in my comments.

This is just my opinion.

I hear your pessimism on the exemption from quota. The write up here is an attempt to bring the committees on both sides to the table and let them decide what they want to do with it. The solution quoted here will not be as it is if it were to be drafted by folks on the hill. In normal conditions, exemption from numerical limits is a big issue, but given the surplus of homes, 11.5 month inventory and ever growing foreclosures, rock solid mortgages EB applicants qualify for, might make such exemption possible in a situation that is referred to as once in a century thing.

20% down payment on sale price is a sign of good borrowing habits in the mortgage industry. Last time when I checked approximately 800 visas were used in EB-5 yearly. Thats a different story.

The RFE is mentioning my medical records cannot be found. we are pretty sure we did file it.

My lawyer says the best way is to get a new medical done and send the new reports. I heard his advise and went to get a new medical exam. The civil surgeon asked me for PPD (TB Test) reports from previous years (1998) as in 2007 (when only the X Rays were done and they were clear), the size of the induration was NOT required but says now we need the size. I am trying to get the reports from the hospital where I got the testing done, but it has been more than 7 days and i am still waiting. The civil surgeon says that if we don't find the records we can do another TB test.

My PCP says that once the TB test is positive, it is always going to be positive (which is true as i got it done twice - 1997 and 1998) and the 2nd time the induration was more than the first time. If i get it 3rd time, is it going to be more induration? Also, are there chances of reaction due to getting it done the 3rd time? I think my PCP mentioned something like this earlier.

The civil surgeon says that if the induration is more than 10 mm, i might have to go through treatment :( I was shocked to hear that and did some reading and found out from another member too that the treatment is recommended and NOT required.

If the TB test results from 1998, don't come in time for me to respond to the RFE, can i not send the copy of my original medical done? I am going to ask the lawyer about it too, but wanted to know some personal experience of the folks who have gone through it.

All that has to help Steve's numbers... so how many Mac users really have more then just one machine?

On the one hand, it's great in that it sort of validates the fact that the machines are better, or at least "cooler" and more fun, than PCs. But on the other hand, it's just the nature of production that the more units you're responsible for creating, the more room there is for error, rush-jobs, and cutting corners.

Apple is, I think everyone here agrees, far superior to PC manufacturers when it comes to quality control (the recent MB problems aside - I give a pass on that since it's really their first ever foray into the Intel-based notebook world which is a different animal altogether). Generally, Apple uses better, more reliable parts, a better overal setup and architecture, and the end result is a faster and more robust machine.

If they can somehow keep those high standards while continuing to grow in the world market I'm all for it. If not, I'm fine with being in that 6-10% range and enjoying my superior machine.

Stop looking for the big power and flexibility! It's a product designed for the road warrior. Someone that is always on the road and needs a light but functional laptop will find the Air useful and not a bad value compared to others on the market in the category.

Heck, we got people still using 128kbps MP3 for crying out loud. If they heard any difference (or if it really sounded like crap) we'd see them using 256kbps MP3 instead. Granted, the encoder makes a huge difference, but most files you see on P2P networks are 128kbps.

128 M4A (on my system) cuts the top and bottom out and leaves the middle range intact. Maybe it�s my Sennheiser setup or something but 128 actively alters electronic music, rap and nu metal/rapcore. If you only listen to iTunes you�re in for a shock if you go to a concert.

I think my main reasoning behind this comes as a developer - a new screen would likely require a different resolution ratio (a change from the 320x480/640x960 we work with now) and to be truthful given the fragmentation issues Apple's always so keen to point out in the Android market...well lets say unless the new resolution also coincides somehow with iPad changes down the way I can't imagine it happening.

I think we'll see more cores per cpu before we see 3GHz. IMHO, 4,8 or more cores at 2.66 is far better than 1 or 2 cores at 3GHz.

IBM never produced chips that could run at 2.7GHz. In IBM was stuck at 2.2GHz instead of the 3GHz promised. Apple requested that chips be overclocked to 2.5GHz. In IBM was stuck at 2.3 GHZ, these chips were also overclocked to 2.7GHz. This year we are at Dual Cores 2.5Ghz. Even if Apple uses nothing but 2.66 GHz Dual cores, they will still be the fastest, non-overcloked chips that Apple has ever used.

8 cores?! Wow, maybe one day! But 2 or more cores/CPU are only good if your app can use them. Most applications, and in fact many of Apple, do not use more than 2 cores/CPUS. The Quad core G5's are a good example how the 3rd and 4th core are 98% or the time unused. A Dual 3GHz to a user would be much more usuefull than an 8 core 2.5GHz!

P.S. The number ONE problem that Apple must address in their pro line is the lack of Hard Drive bays! We need at least 4 HD, please! An internal 10,000 RPM RAID array is music to teh ears of pro video and film users.

I think the current case is getting a little old looking and needs a change. It still holds up to pc cases and is beautiful inside. My compaints are how heavy it is and how the handles cut through my hands when I try to lift it. I'd really like to see them change that a little.

I personally would like to see something like the macbooks, in white or black.

I really don't see the need for any case changes for the towers (other than adding at least one more 5 inch bay, which I am all for) instead of redeigning the case for the sake of it, why not pocket the saving in design, and tooling, and pass some along to the consumer. I don't recall any big case changes to the mini, or imac in the G5 - intel change over.

You're screwing up, intel. We don't want 300 trillion transistors on a 1 nm die. We want longer battery life. Idiots.

Don't blame Intel, blame Apple for not using the ULV versions of the Core Duo chips. There are other manufacturers which use them (otherwise it would not make much sense for Intel to offer them).

However, the battery life of these machines is maybe in the order of six hours only, for once because the screen, HD etc. still need the same amount of power. Making the screen smaller, using Intel graphics, maybe even a 1.8" HD, you can reduce power consumption further, most often manufacturers also reduce battery size at the same time to make the laptops lightweight, preventing you to see battery life numbers of ten hours.

Moreover, reports about machines using the ULV versions (and sometimes 1.8" HDs) do complain about the performance.

There is one feature I really need--the ability to run TimeMachine on an encrypted disk. Does the full disk encryption in Lion allow Time Machine to run in real time. With Snow Leopard, Time Machine will operate only after the system is shut down.

I dropped by BB this morning to score an iPod Nano. After standing around the diplay for ten minutes with no assistance, I headed over to the cell phone section to find the nearest Blue shirt. Of course, she couldn't leave her section, so she agreed to page someone. The page went out over the P.A., and in the time it took me to walk back to the ipod case, two "window shoppers" had showed up and were conversing amongst themselves about the merchandise.

Naturally, the when the clerk arrived, not knowing which customer needed assistance, she addressed them first. When they politely declined her help, she hovered there and stared over there shoulder as they continued their conversation.

At that point, I politely interjected, "Excuse me, miss, I paged you." She gave me a sideways glance -the barest minimum of an acknowlegement- and snapped, "I'll be with you in a moment."

It was at that point I drove to the Apple Store a block over and completed the transaction where the sales staff practically threw themselves at me.

The moral of this story: Eff Best Buy. They don't deserve to carry Apple products. This headline literally made the whole episode worthwhile.

Well, Fry could have added our iPads and our phones too. Its disgusting already how much advertising has infiltrated our lives. You can't even read a news story on the internet without an ad being being intrusively shoved in your face.

Well then shut your eyes and plug your ears...or kiss your content (aka what you DO want) good bye as those ads are what is paying for you to enjoy that news story you refer to and most anything else that is free or a lower cost than it would be without ads. You can't have it both ways. Want all bloggers, media, etc. to do everything without ads AND without a charge? You try running a biz that way...see how long you'll be able to pay your bills.

In reality, the more data advertisers have about you, the better they will be able to put forth ads that are much more relevant to you. If we're going to have ads, might as well have them be for something of genuine interest to each one of us.

Yes. I believe people who have gotten their hands on Core 2 Duo beta chips have put them in their mini's with no difference (except a massive speed boost)

It's no problem in the Mini's, however, in both the MacBook and MacBook Pro the chips are soldered onto the logic board... so they're not upgradeable.

(although I expect some company like Daystar will eventually offer a "mail your computer in and we'll upgrade the processor" service like they do the PowerBook G4's)

I've been living with this iphone 3g since it launched and didn't want the iphone 4 for antenna reasons.

Now if this is true that they will push back the iphone 5 release. I will seriously consider jumping platforms.
No point in getting a 4 since it's already outdated and I was hoping for the iphone 5 release in June/July.

I think this is a serious mistake on apple's part and yes, it would also be dumb to release the 5 in june and a 5.5 with LTE in January, but They could push the lte until june of 2012.

I can't open the links due to work internet, but they should have done equal damage to all cars. Besides, every real car dents and scratches pretty easily.

They kind of cant do more detailed damage to standard cars. Premium cars are modeled exactly right their real counterpart. Each body part is completely separate from the rest and can be torn off in a collision. Standard cars are one big mesh that can be dented, but not broken apart. In order to give the same level of damage to a standard car they'd have to update it to a premium model.
I've heard/read chatter that some patches will update some standard cars to premium, but i dont think i've seen anything official yet. Kaz is way too ambitious and had to cut a lot out of the game already. I expect he'll add it in as time goes on, as patches and not paid DLC.

Even though I sometimes get bored of your constant dissing of GT5, those are my thoughts as well.
I know it probably seems, at times, like I'm just mindlessly bashing the game, but I'm not. That isn't how I intend to come across. I'm a LOOOONG time GT fan who is just really frustrated with how the whole saga of this game has played out. Too long in the making and still releasing with flaws, half-assed features, and needing patches is not what I've come to expect from PD.

My only hope is, now that they've got this out the door, they will start major work on GT6 and get things cleaned up and to customers in a couple years, not half a decade. Like I said, the core of a great game is in there, somewhere. They just need to trim off a lot of the fat, and make GT6 that great game we expected.

Some of this makes sense, some of it not.

I think AppleInsider is right about the case. With the exception of the MacBook, whose design has been rumoured for years and clearly was something Apple would have done even had this been the "iBook G5", Apple has made it a point with all of their Intelizations to use the same case as the predecessor, as if to say "It's business as usual, all we've changed is the processor." So from that point of view, the PowerMac G5 case being, more or less, the Mac Pro case, makes a lot of sense.

Two optical drives? No, sorry, not seeing the reasoning. The reasons given so far don't add up:

- copying DVDs - you can't legally copy 99% of DVDs anyway, if there was no need for twin CD drives, why would there suddenly be for DVDs?
- burning two at once - few people need this, and it's a great sales opportunity for a Firewire external burner anyway. Hell, why stop at TWO?
- Blu-ray - not unless they're really screwed up BR and drives with BR will be incompatible with existing media or something.

Against this, you have the confusion generated by a Mac with two optical drives. I have a Mac with two optical drives (an in-built combo drive, and a FW DVD burner), and it's not terribly elegant. It's fine when reading disks (obviously), but writing them generates some confusion. How sure am I that I'm burning to the right drive? I'm not saying you can't do it, I'm just saying this would be unbelievably un-Mac like. It'd be like the next version of iTunes coming with a menu at the top of its window.

It's also kind of easy to see where this rumour might have originated, in some garbled communication where the rumourmonger says "Two optical drive formats", or "Two bays", or "Multiple media readers" (hey, why not put an SD/CF/MS reader on the front? Pretty much everyone uses them these days, especially the prosumer-market Apple is after. Bet there are more people who'd use an SD card reader than a Firewire port.)

I've been wrong before, but I'm going to go for a traditional PowerMac G5 enclosure, and a single optical drive which may, or may not, support Blu-ray in some shape or form.

Time Machine: the attempts to say this was done before with VMS, System Restore or Shadow Copy are pathetic, and those who made the comparison should be ashamed of themselves. Of course it isn't a completely new idea: it's been something that people have wanted to do for years. As far as I can see, Apple is the company that first demonstrated a practical version of this feature that an ordinary person could use. I predict that Microsoft's implementation will be a complicated mess that regular users find opaque and will not use (just like System Restore is).

Er ... you right click on the file, select properties, and then just click on the previous versions tab.

MS has actually put it where most people expect to find it; I thought they might put it on the actual right-click menu, but I honestly don't think that it's going to get used enough for folk to want to have it in their face all the time.

Oh, and MS doesn't need a separate drive for it to work. If the Apple Time Machine ( :rolleyes: ) really does need a separate drive, then it sounds as if Apple has probably just skinned a version control system it pulled from the open source world.

The US GSM carriers suck. T-Mobile has great customer service, but their coverage stinks. Cingular has great coverage, but they have BY FAR the worst customer service.

Plus EVDO beats the pants off of EDGE. And Verizon + Sprint + Amp'd + US Cellular + a bunch of other, smaller CDMA carriers account for over 60million potential customers in the US. If they only do a GSM version of the phone, it'll be a big mistake.

Honestly, I don't mind waiting. The iPhone 4 is a BEAUTIFUL phone. Takes great pictures, fast, responsive, high-res screen etc etc. New apps are being released all the time and getting updated.

I dont see much change really, the 1.66GHz merom chip will find its way into the mini (they'll scrap the solo model).

The 1.83 & 2.00GHz for iMacs (if they use merom) and MacBooks and the 2.16 and 2.33 for the 15 & 17 MBPs respectively. Its that simple.

the iMac will get a conroe. Nothing can be as dumb as putting a laptop chip in the desktop iMac. If the iMac could hold a G5 in it, it sure can hold a Conroe chip.

I know people here (from reading) aren't fans of Blu-ray because Steve doesn't like it but it has it's place. Right now there isn't a better way to give people HD video (Not everyone has the ability to, or wants to, stream it via online)

That said I will wait and see what they have to offer officially, although the back and forth her is entertaining. ;)

Based on the video I'd be betting the other way; that DVD SP will not get updated. It will be supported, but on the way out.

Physical media's relevancy is waning by the day. And if Apple has a "be where the puck will be" attitude then it's not going to put energy in propping up a dying war horse.

If you need a one-off Blu-Ray disc you can already out put to Blu-Ray via Compressor then burn via Toast. I can see Apple declaring hard media dead before I see it enhancing support BD-R.

If something goes awry with my 3GS I'll have a problem as I don't want to be locked into a contract with AT&T buying a iP4 a year after it was released, and my iPhone 2G (original) has no GPS so some of the functionality I rely on will be gone). Maybe I'll schedule a genius bar check-up for my 3GS before my Apple Care expires. I don't expect LTE although it woudl be nice. I do hope for 3G+, dual core processor, improved antenna (although the signal strength on the IP4 is much stronger than on the 3GS) and thinner would be nice. I'd also really like it to be like the iPad2 with the GSM version able to work on other GSM networks by a quick change in SIM card and not locked to AT&T for those that travel a lot abroad or to Canada.

Funny how I just came across this thread, as I'm in the middle of an Apple support nightmare as well (I have one of those MacBooks that just turns itself off for no reason - completely unacceptable). I have been routed through 12 people over 3 calls, with several promises of "expedited resolution"s but no tangible result.

Although it's possible (and likely) that the prevalence of the MacBook defects have been overblown, I do know that Apple's support process puts you through a lot of hoops to get any major issue resolved (e.g., replacing a clearly defective product). Each person I've talked to has been courteous, but in the end I still have no faith in their ability to actually solve my problem in a timely manner.

I've seen this happen to me personally... the macbook just shuts down on me. I "THINK" I have linked it to the magnetic money clip in my pocket. I THINK when I put the macbook on my lap it thinks I have shut the cover due to the magnetic latch. Is it possible you're putting near or on something magnetic?

I do not think that is the plan. I believe the service will allow you to download your songs as well. It just gives you the option to go to the cloud if / when needed.

How is it different than using a Wacon Tablet?
There are a few nice features you get with a separate tablet. First, your hand doesn't interfere with your view of the screen. Second (and kind of related), you don't get fingerprints all over your screen. Third, there is no need to calibrate the pointer with the display (it's maddening when the cursor is a few pixels away from a stylus).

Apple can design better than that. It will probably not look like that. Why? Because they do not want it to look exactly as the Nano as it would confuse people. That design does not make sense to me.

I think and hope they will make a new Newton, more a Apple PDA than a iPod with phone capabilities.

It is time for Apple to release a phone, but not just an iPod Phone. Look at the patent Apple made some days ago, it looks more like a PDA/Smartphone than phone which is great.

The Nanos are the best selling mp3 player. They're beautiful and loved by all. Nobody is going to not buy a cell phone because it ''looks too much like a nano'', that will be the reason they DO buy the cell phone.

Having been bitten numerous times by McAfee, I never believe their press releases.

Way back, I subscribed to their virus and firewall software. I tested the firewall, and it worked. Until they updated it to a slicker looking interface. Some sixth sense made me test it again, and bingo, my computer was exposed. McAfee customer "support" was not interested. They had my annual subscription, and that was all they wanted.

After ripping all McAfee code out of my PC, I was dismayed to find that my employer signed up for McAfee products.

Months and months of slow PC, followed by bricking thousands of employee PCs with their encryption-at-rest software.

I, too, once used their product when it was a little puppy. It was fast and frisky and did its job. Then it started growing and became a suite of solutions. And it got fat and slow and turned into a beast. I finally slayed the beast -- and others too who had let these puppies-grown-beasties into their homes -- and eventually went Mac. No animals in my home now.

I think he used iTunes as an example because it is something that Mac users would be familliar with as opposed to some other application that you would look at and say "WTF is that?"

Anyway, an .exe in Windows is refered to as an "application". A "program" is a collection of files that includes one or more .exe and possibly other files. This has been the case since Windows XP (possibly earlier).

An .exe is an executable, not an application. Some people may have called them applications, but not MS. Never. Until now.

Last I heard the unemployment rate in FL was reported to be around 12% and falling slowly. I feel secure in my job.

I'm not really sure who or what you mean by "the media". I get local news from the local newspaper and most everything else from NPR. As for the relative accuracy and/or truthfulness of these outlets, I try to apply the principles of Occam's Razor and generally don't worry about it beyond that.

I really hope Apple doesn't jump on the camera-phone bandwagon. Seems to go against their philosophy of having devices that do few things but to them far better. And it would make the phone useless to me. But that's just because my employers are sensitive about such devices, with the nuclear reactors and all.

And signing on with Cingular or any other major carrier seems like an even bigger mistake. The only way to truly improve the cell phone user experience is to take them out of the picture and introduce a fair and simple billing system (i.e. MVNO w/ daily flat rate, iTunes-style micropayments).

I was disappointed that only Disney signed up so I bought a ton of movies in the last week. Hopefully that got the attention of the other studios and sign up too. I really like the idea of downloading musics and I think HD movies will be a killer next year. Hopefully hard drives will continue to go down in price.

Most of the movies I purchased I didn't plan to purchase in DVD format. I looked at the trailer and liked it so I bought it. It is the convenience that sold me. This is revenue the studio would never receive before now.

Now, we can freely discuss the "merits" of this patent, but fact is that Apple lost, fair 'n square. If Apple thought that Creatives patent was bogus, they would have NOT paid. 100 million dollars is a lot of cash, no matter how you slice it. If the patent was bogus, and they still paid, Apple would be sending other companies a message that said "Want some cash? Sue us with bogus patents, we'll gladly pay!". No, Apple paid because they felt that they were really infringing and that if they had proceedd with the lawsuit, they would have lost a lot more than 100 million.

If it's a BS patent, why did Apple pay? Clearly, it was NOT a BS patent. True, the patent-system might be screwed up, but that is not the point of this discussion.

Alright, Menu system. But it's the same thing. You select songs (files) through groups of albums/artists/etc (folders/directories).

Of COURSE Apple was infringing on the patent if you assume it was a valid patent. I'm saying the patent never should have been granted because it's not something you can patent. I have a feeling that Apple possibly could have won this lawsuit, but it would have taken years of red tape, legal fees, etc, and they would be taking a gamble. Apple's taken gambles in the legal process before and lost (see: Microsoft GUI case). Steve doesn't want to go through that again, so he pays off Creative. Then, being Steve, he somehow uses his RDF to get Creative to join the licensing program, which has the potential to MAKE APPLE MONEY off of this deal.

Did Apple "win" this? Of course not. They're still out 100 million. But they also came out with some interesting deals that make this not a total loss.

And finally, to answer your statement in the first paragraph: This is EXACTLY why the patent system IS messed up. Because it DOES send a message of "hey we filed this patent for something blatantly obvious, give us some money" In most cases, it will be cheaper to settle. Thus companies end up using Patents, rather than products, as a money-maker.

I think the whining (about notebooks being crap) is the fact that there is so much demand for it that Apple has no time to actually test the product.

It's a good thing that they offer free replacements for those that find defects actual defects in the machines. Usually the first batch is not so perfect, and that goes for all computer manufacturers.

I have 2 macbooks in for repair (they have been being repaired for just under 2 weeks, both have multiple problems) I have spoken to apple on the phone several times to try and get them replaced and they flat out refuse.

While I would normally agree, look at the MBP, iMac, Mac Mini, iPod 5G, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle and iSight. These products have not been updated for a while and the product line is starting to get stale.

No, VNC displaying the entire screen from the computer and Apple has a built in VNC server in their OS. This is a matter of taking the icon images themselves and using them for another purpose in a client/server application rather than in an app running on the mac itself. It is a clear case of copyright infringement. RA could have avoided all of this by simply providing their own licensed icons.

@guet: You should read what you wrote. You are proving yourself wrong with your own points. They are licensed for use on a mac, not for distribution to a client machine be it an iphone, Blackberry or Android.

You say that but it's not necessarily true. One of my apps was rejected for depicting an image of an Apple product. Not a copyrighted file, mind you. Just a little icon, drawn by me, that looked like an Apple product. It was rejected for depicting an Apple trademark.

The current PB look has been around since 2001. I think the alumin look is starting to look soooo 2000. Were heading toward time to move on with a new chip and a new look.

I still like the look of the PB, a few refinements would be welcome... mag latch, firewire 800 on the 15inch model. I dont think apple will do a complete redesign for a "small" upgrade like the C2D, but they can take the chance to polish their offerings a bit more.

See that area emphasized above? That's the exact thing that causes all our bickering in but the U.S. and the U.K.. The idea that somehow it's okay to violate contracts, laws or even social norms just because you agree with the reason for breaking said rules. If you have a problem with the rules, get them changed, until you do, obey them. There's a reason it's called "civilization" - we all have to be civil for it to work.

I am a huge Mac fun and I am aware there are some downfalls an I like to voice them out. For Apple, "great power comes great responsibility"... lol Most if not all the time Apple comes up with a new update, specially for a product so awaited as it is the iMac, it usually comes with a "Bang" for innovation and new features. I didn't feel it, did you? :eek:

An Apple will be next for me never the less :apple: As much as I hate desk clutter and cables, I may just replace my setup with a MacBook Pro when the new OS comes up and keep my nice 30 inch monitor instead. Or just wait for the next MacMini or just the iPad 3 (I waited enough for next PC innovation what is a year more:p) .

PS: I also wanted a lighted key board, input connections on the side not the rear, remote control updates, cooler temperature monitor (My friend's iMac is a little room heater) and direct connection from the iMac via Wi-Fi to my TVs so I can use the TV either as an extended monitor, sans cables, or to I watch TV content without the need to use the AppleTV.

Not keynote at AppleExpo Paris, but a press event that day in the US and streamed to London? So crazy it might be true...

$15 downloads just won't fly with me, nor will $10. As it stands, I can buy a DVD from Amazon for $10, get it the next day, and not have to back it up somewhere... Gotta get it down to $5 or less for me to be interested-- maybe $10 for pre-releases.

I don't see the problem. Seems SJ made the right choice from the very beginning by using a closed licensing model. Look at the amazing differentiation between Apple and Everyone Else. And others are trying that EXACT SAME differentiation (but without the guts to actually go all-in with it) and losing. Check out the failed Dell Adamo line. Dell *tried* to Apple-ify the experience. Except for the fact that they had nothing to do with the very company that actually makes the OS it's supposed to run, other than a licensing agreement. It doesn't work that way.

Now HP is trying it with WebOS. But Im not sure if they know how "to say 'no' to a thousand things and say 'yes' to that one special idea." It's all based on philosophy and attitude when you envision how everyday folks are supposed to interact with tech. Most tech companies out there don't have a grasp on it.

This would quite possibly be the best thing ever if it worked well (it would have to at least output 720p, if that's even *possible* over 802.11g/whatever). I've been waiting for a device like that for a rather long time.

Before she let the crowd get into a booing frenzy over another "hiatus," Lauryn revealed that she needed to be off her feet for awhile, since she's preggers with her sixth child!

Kate Plus Eight Returns! Perez Hilton Interviews Kate Gosselin!

The new season of Kate Plus Eight returns to TLC this evening (check out a sneak peek above) and Perez recently sat down with the mother of many, Kate Gosselin, for a very revealing chat!

We talk about her love life, her kids (they're all back in regular school now), her relationship with ex-husband Jon (her response may surprise you), how she stays in shape plus more.

Perez Hilton: Hello.

Kate Gosselin: Hello.

Perez Hilton: Hi, it's Perez. How are you doing?

Kate Gosselin: Good, how are you?

Perez Hilton: I'm well. Where are you right now? Are you at home in Pennsylvania?

Kate Gosselin: I am.

Perez Hilton: that's a good thing. Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? Are you work mode promoting the new show?

Kate Gosselin: Yeah, pretty much. The kids aren't here this weekend so I have like, it's my catch up weekend to do everything that I never get done.

Perez Hilton: I'm sure that there's a lot to get done too because you're — like I can't imagine having eight, you must be super busy. So let's talk about the new season of the show. When does it premier? When can we look forward to that?

Kate Gosselin: It starts Monday night at 10 o'clock eastern time TLC.

Perez Hilton: And on the —

Kate Gosselin: And it should be fun.

Perez Hilton: And on the — what will we see on the premiere? Can you give us a sneak peek?

Kate Gosselin: It's my birthday, my surprise birthday episode. We, my best friend Jamie surprises me and whisks me away to New York. And I don't know how she got away with surprising me because nobody surprises me. And pulled it off.

Perez Hilton: You're like Oprah that way, she does not like surprises.

Kate Gosselin: No, I need to plan everything. And so when she showed up I was like, ″Whoa, what is going on?″

Perez Hilton: How did that feel like to just kind of surrender to your friends surprise and go with the flow?

Kate Gosselin: Well it was — after I got over the initial shock I mean, she caught me when I was coming back from the bus stop with no makeup on and I had just been running so I had my running stuff on, and I was all like in after school mode and she appeared. And I got over the initial shock and I was like, whoa. I mean, I spend plenty of nights here by myself after the kids are in bed, you know just me. So I was like, I got over the shock and I was like, ″Wait, this will be fun.″ Of course until she mentioned going to a club and dancing, then that was a whole different story. But yeah –

Perez Hilton: On this new season of the show, can we expect or do you, have you, would you go on any dates? Is that in the cards for you?

Kate Gosselin: Well I hope that it's in the cards for me someday to go on some dates. But I don't know. I mean, I'm not going to rule it out as a possibility. It's my real life, and so if that happens that would be pretty fun probably.

Perez Hilton: You haven't gone on any dates recently?

Kate Gosselin: Not really.

Perez Hilton: Oh. You know what I did recently –

Kate Gosselin: You feel bad for me?

Perez Hilton: Well I feel like I'm in a similar situation in that you know you have — well I don't know, I don't want to — I feel like I have baggage. And I guess I wouldn't call eight children baggage but it's part of you. And some people may be afraid of that and they may have preconceived notions of who you are. But something I did recently was I joined online dating. Is that something you would do?

Kate Gosselin: No. I don't know that I could do that at all. But I mean I know people who do it. How weird is that?

Perez Hilton: Well I guess I'm in a little different situation. If somebody's just wanting to use me, I'm like I'm happy to use them back, let's get naked.

Kate Gosselin: Oh my gosh.

Perez Hilton: I don't have kids so it's a different situation for me.

Kate Gosselin: Totally.

Perez Hilton: Would you consider going to a matchmaker like that Patty woman from Bravo?

Kate Gosselin: I don't know that I know about Patty. Who is that?

Perez Hilton: She's the millionaire matchmaker so she specializes –

Kate Gosselin: Oh I've heard of that. Okay.

Perez Hilton: Is that something that you're open to?

Kate Gosselin: I don't know. I'm just, I think I'm still in the world of I just hope I'll happen upon the exact perfect person. Talk about wishful thinking huh?

Perez Hilton: Well I don't know if the perfect person exists, but close to perfect is a good thing to aim for. So –

Kate Gosselin: Well I say ″perfect″ in quotes. Yeah.

Perez Hilton: So you know after this next season of the show, would you be open to doing maybe a different kind of show like — I'm guessing not because you seem very focused on just being a mom. But would you maybe be open to a dating show? Because I think a lot of people would be interested in seeing you in that role.

Kate Gosselin: I've said it on a million interviews today and I'm going to stop saying no to things because if I say never, it seems to happen. So I'm never going to say never again and so therefore I don't know, you be the judge. I mean, if it was the right thing and it was tasteful and whatever, I'm not going to say, I'm not going to say yes either but at this point. But I mean I am, I do want to meet somebody. My kids want me to meet somebody believe it or not. And so you know I mean, I think in my show, you see me in mom mode. I think the image out of there of me that truly does not exist in real life is that you know I'm horrible, and I'm mean and whatever and I'm not. And so I think that keeps people scared away because they think that I'm some mean, horrible, awful person and I'm not. I'm very driven, I'm very focused, I'm very protective of my kids and you know that's where that part of that ends. So I don't know.

Perez Hilton: Does that translate to your personal life? Like would you approach somebody that you're interested in?

Kate Gosselin: Probably not.

Perez Hilton: How come?

Kate Gosselin: I'm not, like I'm not a confronter-ish person. I'm not like a you know I don't know. And that whole dating thing having been out of it for how many years, it's just weird to be back in it. So it's probably the area that makes me like squirm the most probably other than dancing of course.

Perez Hilton: Yeah. Well a lot of people are probably curious you know there's been some time. What's your relationship like with Jon these days? Is there much of an interaction between you two? Are you friendly?

Kate Gosselin: There isn't much. I mean, he's working now so he has other focuses which is good. The kids go there two weekends a month and they enjoy spending time with him, and you know I wish he would spend more time with them. I think there's a miss conception out there that I keep the kids from him which is, couldn't be you know less true. But they do see him you know four days a month and they enjoy going there now. And I think he's made a better effort in the recent days to you know have more of a kid friendly living situation which is good. And I mean, we do communicate. It, again it goes with the day, the mood that he's in. But you know over the last weeks or a few months, you know we've had friendly kid focused conversations that don't end up in him screaming and yelling at me so that's good. But I think that if I had to judge over the last few months, I would say, yeah, it's been more peaceful than it had been.

Perez Hilton: And what's your relationship like with his girlfriend? Are you a fan of hers or you don't have any relationship with her?

Kate Gosselin: No, I don't have any dealings with her. I mean, that's his life and he lives his life and I live mine, and there's really no need. I mean, I have to deal with him because he's their dad, I don't have to deal with anyone beyond that.

Perez Hilton: Is she allowed to be around the kids or not?

Kate Gosselin: Well in any divorce situation, the, you make the rules in your own house and the other parent doesn't have any you know control over it. So yeah, I mean, whatever he does with them is his business.

Perez Hilton: I have a few questions that some readers wanted to ask. And I thought I'd start with this one because I don't know if you get asked this often. But Lola G wants to know, are you happy?

Kate Gosselin: I am happy. I'm happier than I have been in many years. I look forward always to a bright future for myself and my kids. I love being challenged, I love working hard, I love balancing everything. And so the answer to that is yes. And I think that you know happiness is something you find within yourself and not in somebody else. At the same time obviously if she's asking me happiness, you know alone, single versus with someone, it would be great to share our lives with someone but I'm happy how I am.

Perez Hilton: Well that's a good answer. Leah wants to know if all the kids are back in regular school now.

Kate Gosselin: Oh Leah has such a good name. Yes, they are. They went back — Colin and Alexis went back successfully in April and have done wonderfully and finished the year and so I look forward to a bright first grade year next year. So we got everything squared away and I'm really happy for them, they've done great.

Perez Hilton: Lisa P wants to know if you could possess any talent, what would that be that you don't have?

Kate Gosselin: The obvious answer would probably be dancing but I don't really care to — I think dancers are amazing but I don't know that I would ever aspire. I would love to be able to, I mean, I can hold a tune. But I think more than anything I would love to be able to sing.

Perez Hilton: Me too. I love music.

Kate Gosselin: So do I.

Perez Hilton: Brittany Miller wants to know and I'm sure I want to know too, you know how do you deal with the con — not con, with the criticism that comes your way because people have these misconceptions about you?

Kate Gosselin: When mean things are written and you are guilty of it Perez. I'm –

Perez Hilton: I'm positive these days. It's a new more positive Perez.

Kate Gosselin: Good for you. Thank you. When harsh things come my way, when things are written, when people say things, I turn it around and use it as constructive criticism. So I say if that's what you see about me, and you don't like, I'm just going to work harder to do better.

Perez Hilton: So you actually read like all the stuff that's written or –

Kate Gosselin: No, if I hear things. I don't read it, I mean stuff comes across my twitter and obviously I block awful stuff. But I don't go out my way, no, to read stuff. But if I hear — you know people will come to me and say, ″Oh, did you hear that people will think that″ I'm using this as an example. ″That you keep the kids from Jon?″ You know that kind of, anything that's negative that comes my way that I hear in anyway, shape or form, no. I mean, I don't actively read stuff because clearly there's way too much written about me in my opinion that is so false. So I mean, like my image is that I'm harsh and mean, and whatever so I just work to be everything that is not that. And it actually has really worked because if people open their mouths and criticize you then, and you hear about then I don't know, it gives you something else to think about and prove them wrong.

Perez Hilton: That's a good answer. Michael B wants to know if you weren't doing reality TV anymore, what would you be doing?

Kate Gosselin: Like if TV ends for me, what would I be doing?

Perez Hilton: Yes.

Kate Gosselin: Well, first of all I hope it never ends because I enjoy it and I feel like I get to do a job that I love. So if it's not reality TV, if it's TV in some way, shape or form that would be my goal. So my hope is that it doesn't end part A. Part B of that answer is if it would end, I'm assuming that I would go back to being a nurse but I feel like I've run a business and I think it would be really fun to buy and run a business, whatever that may be. I have some thoughts. But –

Perez Hilton: Well you could start that now, and that could be part of your show.

Kate Gosselin: I know. Well the thoughts that I have, my kids aren't old enough yet so it would be like a family business that we could all do together. But I'm thinking about it.

Perez Hilton: You know, Shinta (phonetic) L wants to know why did you decide to hold on to the last name Gosselin?

Kate Gosselin: Because I want my name to always match my kids; my last name.

Perez Hilton: Okay. Melissa H wants to know how are you staying in shape these days because you still look really amazing even after Dancing with the Stars which a lot of people lose a lot of weight on that show and get really buff. But you, you're looking super good these days.

Kate Gosselin: You know, I don't even know that it was Dancing with the Stars. I think that it was the motivation after Dancing with the Stars that I decided if I could dance for six hours a day, I could run for an hour a day, and I've continued to run. And my schedule's getting trickier so it's, I fit it in wherever I can. Like as soon as I hang up the phone with you, I'm going to run. So I think that running is just really the only thing that I do. I run as many days a week as I can. You know there's good weeks, bad weeks. When I travel it's harder, but that what I do.

Perez Hilton: How do you run — do you run in the cold there?

Kate Gosselin: Yeah. I run, the coldest I ran this year was 17 degrees out.

Perez Hilton: Oh my goodness, I could not do that. You don't have — it's not the same thing if you're on a treadmill for you?

Kate Gosselin: No. You know I used to run on the treadmill and then I discovered outside running. And if you're an outside runner, I mean, I'll do it in a pinch. Like I just did it the other morning and I was like, it's so boring because I'm not a TV or movie watcher while I'm running. I — it's just boring. And when you run outside and you run five miles from home or three, four miles from home, you have to run home. You don't have a choice, you can't turn off either. You know you can't turn it off and get off. So that's extra incentive.

Perez Hilton: That is true. Especially if you're cold, you want to get home even quicker I'd imagine.

Kate Gosselin: You do run faster in the cold I will admit that, yes.

Perez Hilton: Dana wants to know what happened to the Kate does Mundane Jobs show? Is that not in the works anymore?

Kate Gosselin: It's constantly being reformulated and changed, and honestly I'm just along for the ride at this point and you know I'm really game for anything. So it still remains to be seen what the focus and whole outcome of that will be.

Perez Hilton: Okay. And the last question from Chela (phonetic), where do you hope to be in five years?

Kate Gosselin: Wow, in five years I hope to be in TV as well. I hope to have happy, healthy kids, still living here in our house that we love, and it would be wonderful in five years to be with someone that I love and want to spend the rest of my life with. How do you like that?

Perez Hilton: Well it's, I love it. I mean, I want that now though for myself.

Kate Gosselin: Well everything takes time.

Perez Hilton: I know. I'm very impatient, very impatient.

Kate Gosselin: Me too.

Perez Hilton: Well thank you. And have a great run.

Kate Gosselin: Thank you.

Perez Hilton: And a good weekend.

Kate Gosselin: Okay, you too. Thanks very much. Write nice stuff about me from now on you hear?

Perez Hilton: Bye bye. I will. I will.

Nicky Hilton Parties With Her Mom!

Saturday night, Atlantic City was the place to be if you were looking for a good time - with your mom. Nicky Hilton was spotted at The Pool After Dark at Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City till 3am Saturday with her mom, Kathy Hilton, dutifully by her side. The mother/daughter duo spent the night drinking and dancing and even getting into the DJ booth to spin some tunes!

What fun! Now we kind of wish we weren't joke about Paris' reality show crew tagging along! We would love to see what a night out with Kathy Hilton is like! LOLZ!

Jennifer Aniston & Justin Theroux Attend MTV Movie Awards Afterparty Together!

Though Jennifer Aniston didn't make an appearance at the MTV Movie Awards last night, she was on hand at the afterparty on the arm of her new beau and Horrible Bosses costar, Justin Theroux.

The pair were spotted sticking close to one another as well as pal Jason Sudeikis at the Soho House bash until early in the morning. The party was a cap off to their weekend together, which started on Thursday evening when they grabbed dinner at Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood with Kristin Chenoweth, Rachel Zoe, Ryan Reynolds and David Spade.

Inching closer and closer to Seriousville! Good for you! If he makes you happy, then we're nothing but happy for you, Jen! You deserve some lovin'!

Check out a just-released, 30-second teaser for Björk's new single, Crystalline, which will be off of her upcoming album, Biophilia (above)!

According to the message the Icelandic singer wrote on her Facebook page:

"I guess it's time to let you know about my first song from Biophilia, 'Crystalline'. It will appear towards end of June."

Sounds pretty cool, from what we can gather!

We're very curious to hear her new album and the direction she chose to take with it!

Knowing her, it will most definitely be a trip!

Last we heard about Katy's California Dreams tour, she had added eight more stops in September, including San Antonio, New Orleans, and Tulsa!

Now, Katy has added five November dates to her tour, which are as follows:

Nov 19 - Las Vegas, NV
Nov 21 - Oakland, CA
Nov 22 - Los Angeles, CA

Sean Kingston Is Walking!

Some fab news is coming from some sources close to Sean Kingston…

… he's walking!

That's INcredible news! That's a large step in his road to recovery, though he's still in serious condition:

"Sean is breathing on his own and walked for the first time this morning. [He] continues to be hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. His condition has been upgraded to serious. Sean thanks his friends, family and fans for their outpouring of prayers and well wishes."

Such a great thing to hear. We bet everyone close to him is super excited to get this news, and we really hope he keeps getting better!

Official! Katie Couric Will Host Talk Show On ABC!

And there you have it!

Moments ago, the news became official that Katie Couric will making ABC the home of her new syndicated talk show. That's pretty big news for anyone who hasn't read a newspaper, turned on the TV, scanned the Internet or been to our website for the last few weeks. Still, it's nice to have it confirmed!

Anyway, Katie released a statement following the announcement, sharing her thoughts on returning to the network she shares a very special bond with. She said:

"I'm very happy to be returning to the network where I began my career as a desk assistant in 1979. It is tremendously exciting to have the creative freedom to develop my own show with Anne Sweeney, the Disney/ABC TV Group and Jeff [Zucker], and to contribute to such a vibrant, innovative news division."

The project, which according to her contract, Katie will be part owner of (translation: CHA-CHING!), will debut on the alphabet network in September 2012.

Well, it was a hard road to get here Katie, but we hope you got everything you wanted! Best of luck with the show! We'll be seeing ya in 2012!
